In particular, the Chinese Communist Party is warning that if the U.S. keeps putting pressure on the Chinese Communist Party to appreciate the Chinese Yuan against the U.S. dollar, it will enact a mass sale-off of U.S. Treasury bonds that it has accumulated due to exchange rate manipulation for many years. What is so funny about this so-called campaign?

According to the Chinese Communist Party's funny logic, a mass sale-off of U.S. bonds will cause a hard time for the U.S. Treasury to sell new bonds and at the same time cause a fast depreciation of the U.S. dollars.

This does not impose a problem to the U.S. economy cause the Federal Reserve has been ready to raise the interest rate due to rising inflation rate in the U.S. When interest rate is raised, the Treasury will be able to sell new bonds without much difficulty.

Moreover, if the Chinese Communist Party sells its U.S. bond holding, then it will first suffer a severe capital loss because of the rise in the U.S. interest rate in recent years. The Chinese Communist Party has started to accumulate U.S. bonds when its interest rate was still around 1.75-2%. The capital loss is enlarged when the U.S. Treasury is forced to raise T-bond rates to sell new bonds after the mass sale-off by the Chinese Communist Party.

Furthermore, the current interest rate in Europe is about 3.5%, whereas that in the U.S. is about 5%. A shift from holding U.S. bonds to holding European bonds means a fall in yield which is certainly not to the interest of China. The sudden large-scale purchase of European bonds also implies a large scale purchase of Euro creating a depreciation of Yuan against Euro. Such a depreciation will obviously not be welcomed by European countries. Given the already-poor trade relation between China and Europe, such a move is doomed to be disastrous to China.

An alternative is that the Chinese Communist Party simply hoards or destroys the Yuan after the sale-off of the U.S. bonds. After so many years of letting the U.S. enjoy cheap products from China, this simply means that the Chinese Communist Party is getting nothing in return. Still another alternative is that it may use the yuans from bond sales to buy back some Chinese bonds from the Chinese people. This will lower the interest rate in China and is certainly against its recent effort to curb inflation. The buying of bonds from the Chinese public will also result in an increase in their stock purchase, making the current stock market bubble even larger.

In any case, the mass sale-off of U.S. bonds will cause an instant appreciation of Yuan. This is exactly what the U.S. government is ask for. The question is whether the Chinese Communist Party can afford to have a 50-200% appreciation of Yuan over-night! Who on earth will buy low-quality Chinese products that are 50%-200% more expensive than those produced in Vietnam? Just the thinking of this will certainly drive away many factories in China instantly. Another question is whether Europe will remain silent when Euro appreciates at an unprecedented rate, despite of its low interest rate. The Chinese Communist Party is simply declaring wars against all advanced nations in the world! Perhaps the Chinese Communist Party is trying to cook up another reason why the U.S. should boycott Beijing Olympics, namely, for trade retaliation which is economic and not political.

Reference:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?
xml=/money/2007/08/07/bcnchina107a.xmlUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-31494119926839794372007-07-31T00:10:00.000-07:002007-07-31T00:13:00.374-07:00Per polluter or per capita CO2 emissionThe following article is a response to an article posted at grist.org (http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/7/30/121017/375#1).

Perhaps it is true that the U.S. is creating CO2 pollution more than 3 times that of China on the so-called "per capita" basis.

But how about per "polluter" basis? Less than 5% of the Mainland Chinese population is creating a significant amount of CO2 that is comparable to that of an average Americans.

To be conservative, suppose 50 million Chinese are producing the world #1 amount of CO2. Compared to the 250 million Americans who are producing significant amount of CO2, on average, an average Chinese polluter is producing more than 5 times more CO2 than an average American polluter.

What is the solution to this horrible situation?

1. Stop globalization. Globalization means production is not only shifted from energy efficient countries to energy inefficient countries, but also from more ethical and regulated developed countries to more corrupt and unregulated countries.

2. Impose CO2 taxes (tariffs) on products imported from highly energy inefficient and unethical countries.

3. Impose quotas on dirty imports unless the product of origin can show proofs of CO2 reduction and guaranteed energy efficiency. This allows "ethical" developing countries to produce and restrict the pollution created by "unethical" developing countries.

4. Establish (CO2/exports) ratio figures for each exporting country. Sanction those countries that produce an excessive amount of CO2/export. This makes sure ethical developing countries will continue to grow whereas unethical developing countries will not be able harm our world any more.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-82330843705173375752007-07-14T10:32:00.000-07:002007-07-14T10:40:15.925-07:00China Worked Hard to Find Fault with American FoodSource: chinasick.blogspot.com

China's quarantine bureau detained frozen chicken and pork parts from the U.S. Two reputable U.S. companies, namely, Tyson and Cargrill, were accused by the Chinese Communist Party for supplying China with food containing excessive amounts of enhancers and anti-parasite drugs.

This news reminds people of the SKII incident when the Chinese Communist Party tried to retaliate the imposition of stricter standards on China's agricultural products in May 2006 by accusing that the cosmetic from Japan contained two toxic metal compounds, namely, chromium and neodymium.

Reportedly, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan had all concluded that the amount of the metals contained in products like SK-II poses no harm to human health, and SK-II products were not banned in these markets.

Also reportedly, shortly after the negative news about SK-II sold in China, some Mainland Chinese hackers broke into P&G's Chinese website, demanding that it "scram back to Japan". In addition, some violent Chinese customers attacked the company's Shanghai branch after failing to get refunds for their SK-II purchases.

The image is from: http://www.enviroblog.org/2006/09/

References

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?alias=
china-suspends-some-us-po&chanId=sa003&modsrc=reuters_box

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China_Business/HJ14Cb01.htmlUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-86735766394636082582007-07-13T00:15:00.000-07:002007-07-13T00:18:26.808-07:00Country-base Kyoto is JUNK: The China ExperienceThe following article is a response to the article entitled "Offset markets" posted at http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/7/12/71410/1127

10 years ago China was still considered an extremely poor country; therefore, under the Kyoto agreement, it was allowed to be exempted from any restrictions.

Now what? China becomes the #1 polluter in carbon emission. Currently China does not agree with the Kyoto any more. It keeps creating global warming pointing the finger at the western world, claiming that per capita carbon emission, not carbon emission should be used as an indicator.

Guess what? The majority of Chinese are still rural farmers who do not pollute at all. The major polluters in China are state-run power plants, illegal power plants, and evil businesses.

Don't you guys see the problem? If you control the carbon emission in advanced countries, the polluting industries will move to developing countries that are very like to be corrupt dictatorships. Most of the citizens in these countries do not pollute. Dictators in these countries take advantage of per capita pollution quotas to pollute the world. Once you try to control countries like dictatorial China, dirty industries will move somewhere else, perhaps to Vietnam or even Sudan.

Since evil dictatorships like Sudan do not care about their people or the environment and they most likely have some close evil links with China, Mainland Chinese communists will rebuild their evil factories in Sudan and pollute the world as usual.

Now you want to control Sudan... and what is next? In the next 50-100 years, carbon emission will rise in double digits every year. We will be in ICE AGE by then!

Perhaps the so-called "natural scientists" should take some courses in Economics to understand what "capital mobility" means!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-21041544350507955962007-07-11T21:19:00.000-07:002007-07-11T22:31:16.608-07:00From Darfur to Zimbabwe: the China Influence

The photo is from http://www.mdczimbabwe.org/

The Chinese Communist Party has become very active in its presence in Africa in recent years. Its tight bonds with African dictators have been noticed with precautions by the international community for a few years now.

Some so-called political analysts boldly claim that China is more a savior to many African countries than the Western world. They argue that many western countries have attached to their help to most of the African countries different restrictions, such as the development of a democratic society or the improvement of human rights. This has prevented many African countries from obtaining any real assistance for many years.

China, on the other hand, is doing straight business with African countries. Its so-called HELP to these nations is almost-always unconditional, except for one thing. That is, China will be receiving the sole right to access the rich natural resources of these countries. In return, China will be providing these countries with its cheap manufacturing products.

The reality, however, is that China often supply many of these dictatorial African countries with not only goods but also arms and ammunition. On the top of this, unlike the western world, China is not involved in any economic, cultural, or societal activities in these countries, except for the construction of the so-called infra-structure and the development of facilities for extracting natural resources. Once in a while, China will help in providing these nations with some agricultural technology and medical knowledge, areas that China itself is not really good at.

The problem of the involvement of the Chinese Communist Party in Africa has been a relatively unpopular topic until recently. A classic case is Sudan, an oil-rich dictatorial country. Thanks to the ample supply of arms and ammunition from China, the Sudanese government has been successfully conducting its systematic genocide program in Darfur to wipe out African Blacks.

This evil action has long been supported by the Chinese Communist Party in the backstage. Being a member of the Security Council at the UN, the Chinese Communist Party has been consistently blocking any proposal to sanction the Sudanese government for Darfur genocide.

Now, it comes Zimbabwe. An oil-less country that is rich in minerals and other natural resources. Again, some so-called political analysts support the presence of the Chinese Communist Party in Zimbabwe, claiming that it offers unconditional aids that have provided real help to it economic development.

It turns out once again that these so-called political analysts have a major lack of vision. Uncontrolled and unconditional economic development in Zimbabwe is now creating an intimidating inflation rate of over 11000% this year. Shelves in retail shops are now empty because of an unsuccessful attempt by the Zimbabwe dictator to control price.

The so-called economic development only in the building of roads and bridges now turns out to be a curse and definitely not a blessing. What is the purpose of having more roads when the gas station is not selling any imported gas because of the horrific depreciation of Zimbabwe currency?

Stop and think. Do these African countries need more roads and bridges to improve their economies? Any sensible beings will correctly point out that they need better disciplines from their dictatorial governments.

Hardware is not the key to improve African economies. It is software, namely, education, democracy, long-term economic planning, sound fiscal and monetary policies, ... that are important to these nations. Can the Chinese Communist Party help in these areas? It is perhaps better for one to ask: is China doing well in these areas itself?

References

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=11885977

http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0330/p01s01-woaf.html

http://www.jamestown.org/publications_details.php?
volume_id=408&issue_id=3390&article_id=2369974Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-3217941325136317642007-07-06T07:01:00.000-07:002007-07-09T10:05:09.291-07:00Unrecognized Communist Church Attacks Hong Kong Catholic CardinalUnder the communist regime, China has been suppressing any form of true religion for more than 50 years now. Some religions seen as legal by many countries, such as Falun Gong, were even framed by the Chinese Communist Party as cults.

Even today, there are still countless cases of beating and harassing of Christian priests, nuns, and worshipers. To replace true Christianity in order to maintain tight control of Christians, the Chinese Communist Party has replaced any Catholic and Protestant Church by the so-called "Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association" which has never received any formal recognition by any Catholic Church or Vatican all over the world.

Liu Bainian, vice chairman of the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, recently criticized Catholic Cardinal Zen in Hong Kong for taking part in a pro-democracy protest Sunday, which marked the 10th anniversary of the occupying of Hong Kong by the Chinese Communist Party. Reportedly, 68,000 Hong Kongers had participated in the March of July 1 to protest against the blockage of universal suffrage by the Chinese Communist Party. Liu also warned Vatican that the Catholic Church will not gain any trust from the Chinese Communist Party if it keeps on supporting Zen.

The warning came shortly after Pope Benedict showed signs of friendliness to China by sending an open letter to 12 million Catholics in China asking them to remain peaceful with the Chinese Communist Party despite being suppressed

The above new clipping was recorded by the "New Tang Dynasty TV" which contains interviewswith Bishop Zen and Ms. Anson Chan. Carbon dioxide has been blamed by scientists almost unanimously as a greenhouse gas responsible for recent global warming which has created ever more unstable climates.

An unprecedented tornado hitting Jiangsu today, an eastern province in China, killed at least 14 Chinese and injured about 150. Protesters in Hong Kong asked for absolute democracy for electing Legislative Council member as well as their Chief Executive in Hong Kong.

Despite the fact that China has been occupying Hong Kong for 10 years now, many people are unenthusiastic about the development of China. In fact, many protesters will join the July 1 protest as usual to protest against the Chinese Communist Party not keeping its promise to agree on a universal suffrage in Hong Kong.

Pretending not to know about the situation in Hong Kong, Hu Jintao has openly asked the people in Hong Kong to be patriotic. However, most people in Hong Kong are still having a cultural shock being ruled by a relative backward government in China. With a population of more than 6 million, Hong Kong has a much more concrete foundation to become an independent country than Singapore. Let the West pay for them, the polluters, to stop polluting!

Folks, by the way, there are many ways to reduce air pollution in China. It is corruption, collusions with evil business, lack of education, and the good old "free-rider" problem that have progressively increased air pollution in China and the world.

Air pollutants, toxic and non-toxic, can be filtered. It is a matter of cost. Why should all consumers subsidize big corporations such as Walmart who purposely chooses the most polluting country to produce at the lowest cost to earn the highest profit, which eventually leads to intolerable pollution in the world?

Two solutions:

1. Tax evil Walmart for choosing the most polluting country to make its products.

2. Tax the evil Chinese Communist Party who purposely do not or dysfunctionally fails to control air pollution.

By the way, it is not the U.S. against China; it is evil businesses and the evil Chinese Communist Party against all consumers (i.e., you and me) in the world!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWniRnnf82hczbP3E0lrqRrZjCIklWbZTXFBXr1k-ukVk2dBDnvYL9YdSmdZGgS8QqMgvE9AHhyvGlEnZfUUB8Rx7qh5ruUYPhmmRCBijtjZhvuNHlAT-U3Rey4GiErh2xxb6gM1BI6cyN/s200/S1999324040624.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080805984545526274" />
The above is a satellite picture from NASA showing the thick layer of smog over the sky of China.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-7583226493278341292007-06-26T07:47:00.000-07:002007-06-26T07:53:23.488-07:00Reporters Without Borders Against China's Article 57The Chinese Communist Party has been proposing additional censorship under Article 57 of the law in China. In fact, the month of May turned out to be the most pollution month of the year!

By moving polluting industries out of Beijing, the Chinese Communist Party has been hoping to reduce the level of air pollution in Beijing to an acceptable level so that Beijing can host Olympics 2008 in a "glamorous" way! As usual, the Chinese Communist Party has overlooked many factors. The Northeastern region is the culprit for producing the smog in Beijing. Moving a bunch of substandard powerplants or factories in Beijing cannot solve the air pollution problem in Beijing because the pollutants are produced in areas close to Beijing but not in Beijing itself.

Now, the Chinese Communist Party must be worried about their dreams in their own world because their so-called "Green Games" will turn grey!

Reference
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB118256486878245550.htmlUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-22611350340559746542007-06-22T02:04:00.000-07:002007-06-22T02:13:21.644-07:00Stop equating China and Chinese Communist Party on PollutionThe following comment is a response to the article written by Christina Larson at Gristmill entitled "One more truth about China and climate change":

http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2007/6/21/10305/8592

Oftentimes the central government says one thing; a local government does something else! In fact, there is something known as the "prince gang" and "Shanghainese gang" in China. They represent different gangs (monetary interest groups) within the Chinese Communist Party.

Local governments only care about their economic growth rates. There are several reasons. First, they are rewarded based on the local GDP growth. Second, at the provincial level, most government heads are from without these provinces. They do not care about the long-term development or environment of these provinces (say the governer of the Guangdong province cannot speak Cantonese, a local dialect of Guangdong). The Chinese Communist Party purposely does that to avoid a province to become too independent (the same system applies to the armies). Third, local governments have no incentives (no rewards) to reduce air pollution or other kinds of pollution. Fourth, local governments are very corrupt. They receive bribe money from evil factories. It is also common that local party members own their own evil factories.

The central government is not much better. Look at the CEO's of the power companies. They are the sons or daughters of old powerful party members (say the daughter of Li Peng, the muderers of student protestors on June 4, 1989, is the CEO of China Power). The so-called "legal powerplants" are also out of control. They actually have the "rights" to escape from any punishment from violating the regulations. In other words, they are the "legal violators".

Sounds like a Maffia state, right? No, it's worse than that cause these Maffias are not dealing drugs; they are polluting the environment "legally".

Stop talking about "China" polluting the world cause common Chinese are not polluters. They are the victims of pollution in China, just like you and me! It is the communist dictators and unethical factories that are the culprits. The question is how to stop these evil parties from using "China being a developing country" as an excuse to increase the level of pollution to victimize Chinese and non-Chinese!

Saying that people trying to "paint China as the bad guy" only shows one's misunderstanding about China. Yesterday, someone on another thread correctly pointed out that the name "China" being used by many people was a dictatorship. But I am going one step further. China is not only a dictatorship. It is an oligopolistic dictatorship that either runs or colludes with unethical businesses.

Please do some research on the topic of "coal mine explosion in China." You see exactly the same picture! In 2005, the central government announced that it would close down 7000 illegal mines in China to stop coal miners from dying as a result of mine explosions. Guess what! Most of the illegal mines have always been KNOWN to be illegal by local government officials. The reason why these mines exist is either because they bribe local government officials or because they are run by local government officials.

Do some research on "Shanxi Child Slaves". The same problem. The gangs that abducted children from Henan and sold them to Shanxi were run by either the Communist Party officials or by some local gangs that paid bribe money to local officials.

As a joke, I would suggest if you don't tax the "unethical parties in China" (who do not represent "China"), you can nuke the Chinese Communist Party. A bit of exaggeration, but that is certainly a viable alternative solution!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-78155479844324648712007-06-21T11:03:00.000-07:002007-06-21T11:05:02.558-07:00Blind Human Right Activist Beaten in Jail<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdRQH_mA62gsdhobdBxl1ctiS9AiE5r2UOKuYeFRhMHUmr4iRQB019iOFbgWBDpZ47RmBlXUAcZ_V_Ls3iuIJh-7lt-9GmI0l8hA2aZRfJie25L5SCgXlfvcUl2dPbzVDEtHnR089pZ9OY/s200/chenguangcheng_narrowweb__300x414,0.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5078580057827375778" />
Mr. Chen Guangcheng, a human right activist and a blind lawyer, was sentenced to jail after helping some rural famers fighting for their human rights. Less than 0.1 billion people are living in cities. Amongst these city dwellers, less than half of them own air conditioners. And Yet China has managed to become the most polluted country in toxic gases, such as nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and ozone for many years now!

A European environmental group just confirmed yesterday that China has become the #1 emitter in carbon dioxide since 2006.

Now, the question is, who in China is producing all the evil pollutants to pollute planet earth? Definitely not common people in China.

The main sources of air pollution in China are illegal power plants and sub-standard industries. These power plants often collude with local officials of the Chinese Communist Party by bribing them. Some of them are even owned by the Chinese Communist Party members.

Yeah, you can blame international corporations for buying "polluting" products from China knowing that they will eventually pollute the world. However, the Chinese Communist Party should also be sanctioned!

The ONLY solution:

Impose "pollution tax" on some products made in China! No consumer is willing to save that kind of dirty money just because they want to buy some dirt cheap Chinese commodities! Eventually, all consumers, from advanced nations or from developing nations, will suffer if no action is taken.

Who will benefit from air pollution? Evil businesses and dictators in developing nations!

Western consumers should try to conserve energy to reduce the production of greenhouse gases. However, no matter how hard western consumers try, China's carbon dioxide production will be increasing at a pace of at least 20% a year. In less than 10 years, the level of greenhouse gases will be doubled on our planet earth!

Climate change is only a small topic because it takes time for the effect of greenhouse gases to surface. Hardcore pollution that is harzard to everyone's health should be the main focus! In either case, irresponsible businesses and Chinese dictators are to the key culprits to be blamed, though consumers in general should start taking action!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-12750017244032948412007-06-18T06:16:00.001-07:002007-07-09T09:53:17.720-07:00"1000 Child Slaves in China" Video Released (English Version)

The "1000 Child Slaves in China" video in English was finally released by youtuber "daughterofchina" yesterday on youtube! Horrible scenes of child slaves as young as 8 year old are shown in the video.

According to the reporter who tried to rescue the child slaves and New York Times News Service (publish on Chicago Tribune), local police in Shanxi has been unhelpful. The police even turned parents away by saying that the "slavery" was nothing more than labor dispute. Reportedly, some parents have been sent away from the factories because of the collusion between local officials and the kiln owners.

Also, reportedly, Liu Cheng, a professor of labor law at Shanghai Normal University, saw the incident as a typical example of a government-business alliance. This is perhaps the main reaon why despite the fact that forced labor and child labor in China are illegal, some local governments don't care too much.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8402894230304101500.post-70803285356172939922007-06-14T11:10:00.000-07:002007-06-20T06:02:37.042-07:00Over 1000 Child Slaves Found in Shanxi, ChinaAt least 1,000 children, were kidnapped in Henan and sold to work in brick kilns northwestern Shanxi.

Reportly, 217 people have been rescued, including 29 children.

According to a Chinese source, however, the rescue of child slaves was greatly hindered by the non-cooperation of local officials and police.
